Bus services will be either cut, rerouted or new routes added in a major shakeup to hit Rosebery residents. Transport Minister Andrew Constance (who lives in Bega) confirmed it is to funnel more people to Green Square Railway Station.

All bus routes that currently service Rosebery will be effected, see the services below.

301 Eastgardens to Redfern. Route withdrawn from service. Rosebery residents are advised to use route 350 between Eastgardens & Mascot, route 303 between Mascot & Eastlakes, route 306 between Mascot & Rosebery, route 320 between Rosebery & Waterloo, and route 392 between Zetland & Redfern

304 Rosebery to Circular Quay. Route will stop operating between Kimberly Grove & Joynton Ave. It will now operate between Green Square & Circular Quay. This route will also change to operate via Gadigal Ave, and Potter Street between O’Dea Ave & Bourke Street. Rosebery Residents will need to walk further to use route 320 along Rothschild Ave & Joynton Ave, and on Bourke Street between O’Dea Ave & Potter Streets. This route will be upgraded & become a frequent route with services at least every 10 minutes during the day & at least every 20 minutes early morning & evening, seven days a week (no mention of 24 hour service).

306 Mascot to Redfern via Dalmeny Ave Rosebery & Green Square Railway Station. New Route. This new route partially replaces route 301 & will provide a direct service from Eastlakes & Rosebery to Mascot, Green Square & Redfern Stations, connecting with train services. Services will operate every 10 minutes during the peak periods, every 20 minutes during the day & every 30 minutes early morning & evening (no mention of a 24/7 service).

309X Port Botany to Central Railway Square. Route withdrawn from service. Popular with the wharfie’s & the people who work in the manufacturing area of Botany, this route will force them onto the much slower & all stop 309 route.

310 Botany to Redfern via Botany Road & Green Square. New route. It partially replaces route 310X (which as been withdrawn) & will provide an only direct peak period service between Botany & Central. It’s a bit of a walk from the wharfs to the bus stop so the wharfie’s & people who work in the manufacturing areas around Botany will not be happy. Services will operate every 10 minutes during peak periods between Botany Shops & Central, with services to & from Swinbourne Street operating every 20 minutes.

310X Banksmeadow to Central Railway Square. Route withdrawn from service. The people who work in the manufacturing areas around Botany will not be happy because they’ll need to use the slower & all stop 310 route.

320 Mascot to Gore Hill — route changes. This popular & rapid service route will only operate between Rosebery & Gore Hill, no longer operate to Mascot or along Botany Road but instead will travel along Rothschild Ave. Rosebery residents who use this service along Botany Road can use route 309. Additional services will operate during peak periods only, early morning & evening between Zetland & Central (but not from Rosebery). The map looks like this service terminates at Harcourt Parade so watch this area for the removal of around 10 car spaces & buses will need to travel up Mentmore Ave near Gelato Messina Rosebery to get back to the city.

343 Kingsford to Circular Quay — route changes. This route will change to operate via Green Square Station instead going via Joynton Ave. Rosebery residents wanting to go along Joynton Ave can use route 304 or route 320 or walk to alternative stops on route 343. This route will be upgraded & become a frequent route with services at lease every 10 minutes during the day & at lease every 20 minutes early morning & evening, seven days a week (no mention of 24 hours). The change will annoy many residents who use this service to go to Gunyama Park Aquatic & Recreation Centre with family & friends which it will no longer go near.

Winners & Losers!

Winners: If you catch a train from Green Square, you’ll be happy.

Losers: The elderly who had direct access to Westfield Eastgardens using route 301 as well as the elderly residents using 304 to get to East Village Shopping Centre. Anyone who likes catching the bus to Gunyama Park Aquatic & Recreation Centre will have a less frequent option. Less bus options along Botany Road.

Missed from the press release

No mention of any upgrade to the bus stop at Green Square Railway Station. There is only room for one bus with only two lanes of traffic, no pull off bay either heading north along Botany Road. There really needs to be a major upgrade & finally get the area to have a major bus terminal to deal with the demand.

Asked about the poor planning over the years around Green Square, Mr Constance who has been Transport Minister since 2015 said “To be honest with you, I think it’s one of the worst examples in the country’s history where we’ve seen planning get ahead of mass transit solutions. It’s terrible to think that we’ve seen the highest concentration of apartment dwellings with next to no foresight into what we should do for a mass transit solution.”.

The decision made by Andrew Constance was based off 2019 Opal Data, not 2021.
