The City of Sydney has given Rosebery residents only 24 days to give feedback on turning Turruwull Park from fresh grass into synthetic grass.

Rosebery Community News first announced what City of Sydney was planning but it has given every indication that it’s going to ram the idea through because of the short notice & lack of detail.

The City of Sydney has only released two dull images of the design idea. The main image above released by City of Sydney looks like not much change but if you’ve seen the Gunyama Park Aquatic & Recreation Centre, its going to be a major change to the look & feel of the Rosebery area.

Have a listen to this interview that was on ABC Radio Sydney with Dr Sebastian Pfautsch who is a researcher at Western Sydney University deeply involved in the issue of synthetic grass.

As mentioned in the audio, on a beautiful 30 degree summer day the surface temperature of real grass can be 30–32 degrees. Synthetic grass can have a temperature of 85 to 95 degrees!

There is also other factors not mentioned in the consultation like the awful smell, bear feet get burnt, the microplastics & plastic entering local waterways.

The European Union is also considering banning synthetic grass. Also, what happens to the yearly Christmas concert at Turruwull Park?

Most of the people & interest groups who want it live outside the area & only come once a year to play soccer.

Also, Turruwull Park — is just a park was designed as a park when Rosebery was first planned in 1914. It seems as though the City of Sydney want to turn our park into semi pro sporting field.

If City of Sydney is so keen to increase the capacity of extra games, there is no mention of extra facilities like change rooms, showers or lockers — only a new bubbler which works just fine.
